Calling Education NPC provides top-quality independent Christian education at a fee affordable to learners from low-income communities. Calling Academy Stellenbosch opened in January 2018 with 60 Grade 8 boys. This school now enrols 320 boys, has graduated three Grade 12 groups and developed its campus with a building project that won the first category prize in two international architecture competitions. In 2022, Calling Academy Kroonstad was founded – this school has grown to 235 boys and girls in Grade 8 to 11. In January 2025, a third Calling Academy was founded in Paarl. The school chain views top-quality education as education that enables learners to lay hold of their callings in accordance with the school motto taken from 2 Peter 1:10, “Making every effort to confirm our calling.”

FOUNDER & CEO  |  CALLING EDUCATION

Werner is a passionate and influential educator. He was the principal of Calling Academy Stellenbosch up to 2022, but now focuses on his role as CEO of Calling Education. He previously taught at Paul Roos Gymnasium, where he headed up character development, Christian union, hockey and a boarding house. His other teaching experience includes Berkhamsted School and the Royal Grammar School (both UK). He has spoken widely on topics such as “How to change the world” (Stellenbosch University), “Can the Oxford Tutorial method promote social mobility?” (Oxford University, panel discussion), “Justice in Education” (Cologne University, online), and “The School as the Lighthouse in the Community” (SAOU Principals’ Convention).  He holds BSc(Ed) and BTh(Honours) degrees. He is married to Lelani and has two children.
